GRANteD Stakeholder Conference in October 19th & 20th, 2023

We would like to invite you to the final GRANteD stakeholder conference which will take place in Vienna on October 19th and 20th, 2023. We will be delighted to welcome you in Vienna but if you cannot make it to Vienna, you can also join us online and follow the presentations via an online stream. At the conference we will present the main findings of GRANteD on gender bias in research funding and research careers and discuss their implications for the design of fairer research (funding) policies. The conference will provide room and tools to engage participants who are on site as well as those who participate online. Please follow us on twitter to get the latest updates on the GRANteD conference or visit our website: https://www.granted-project.eu/
Latest deliverable from the GRANteD project

The New Year 2023 started with an important progress of the GRANteD Project: The project team submitted end of February 2023 the deliverable “D6.1 Synthesis Report on gender bias in each core-RFO and experimental results”. The deliverable is structured into two parts. The first part takes a closer look at the assessment practices by panels of the five RFOs in focus in the GRANteD project. It analyses the way panels act when they process, evaluate, rate and rank funding applications, and which gender dynamics and gendered practices become visible there. A further focus was on the composition of panels, how they are chaired and which function they have in the overall assessment process. The data basis for this part were qualitative semi-structured interviews with staff members, panel members and remote reviewers (where relevant). Furthermore, the GRANteD team was allowed to observe panel meetings in two of the five RFOs.

The second part of the deliverable focuses on an experimental approach, which aims to shed light on the research question, if gender bias exists when evaluators assess funding applications and if differences in the success rates or in the rating of funding applications can be identified that could be associated to the gender of the PI.

Furthermore, a final version of D4.1 is now uploaded on the GRANteD homepage. Please check it out here.
GRANteD Feedback Workshop with RFOs

Between October 2022 and January 2023 Feedback Workshops with the SFI, FWF, NCN, SRC and SRDA virtually took place. First findings and conclusions from policy analysis (WP5), interviews and observations in panels (WP6) and the applicants survey (WP7) of the GRANteD project have been presented and discussed with representatives of the respective RFO. The Feedback Workshop served to inform the RFOs about the findings from the GRANteD analysis. The Feedback-Workshop was very well received, all participants showed a great interest in the results and participated actively in the discussion. A next step will be to develop tailored recommendations for each RFO on the basis of the findings and the discussion during the feedback workshops.
